Towards a 'better tourism' in Catalonia - meeting with the ISTO

After the ISTO Board of Directors in Barcelone on March 26-27, an ISTO delegation met with the director of the Catalan Tourism Agency, Patrick Torrent (also President of the NECSTouR network), and his colleagues. The broadening of the ISTO, its main actions and the ongoing European projects were presented to the representatives of the Catalan Government (Generalitat) who also shared the social, cultural and environmental issues related to the sustainability of tourism as part of the strategic plan 2018-2022. The transition from "more tourism" to "better tourism", social inclusion and accessible tourism, the diversification of tourism products in order to unclog the coastline and enhance the interior of the country, as well as actions to demonstrate that tourism is also an opportunity for residents are part of the priority issues in Catalonia. On 19 April, NECSTouR and the Catalan Region are organizing an international workshop entitled "Better place to live, better place to visit".
