Participation of the UNWTO GA in China

Invited as a member of the World Committee on Tourism Ethics, the ISTO President, Jean Marc Mignon, participated in the 22nd General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization, which was held in Chendgu China from 11 to 16 September. Bringing together some 1,300 delegates from 135 countries, four highlights are worth noting. The first concerns the election of a new General Secretary in the person of Zurab Pololikashvili, the current ambassador of Georgia to Spain who will succeed Taleb Rifai at the end of his second term as head of the institution. The second is related to the transformation of the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism into an international convention that refers to the responsibilities of all stakeholders in the development of sustainable tourism. The third highlight was the approval of the Chendgu Declaration on Tourism and Sustainable Development Goals. Finally, the fourth aspect concerns the re-election of almost all current members of the CMET, including the President of the ISTO, for a second term.
